This notice explains what Barihan is intended for, what it must not be used for, and the responsibilities that come with using it. It is the clinical-safety boundary of the product and should be read alongside our Terms of Use.

1. Intended use

Barihan is intended to help healthcare professionals plan, structure, carry out and document clinical audit and quality improvement (QIP) work at the level of a service, department, team, organisation or sample of cases. It supports audit planning, review of published standards, drafting of audit criteria, data collection templates, aggregate analysis, QIP planning, and portfolio, appraisal or governance documentation.

It is intended for use by qualified professionals working within their own scope of practice and their organisation’s governance arrangements.

2. What Barihan must not be used for

Barihan is not a medical device. It must not be used to assess, triage, diagnose, prevent, monitor, predict risk for, treat, manage, or make or support decisions about the care of any individual patient. It is not clinical decision support, not a prescribing or dosing tool, not a triage or emergency tool, and not a substitute for professional judgement.

Barihan’s outputs concern audit and QIP methodology and documentation at an aggregate level — not the clinical management of individuals. If you need to make a decision about a specific patient, use the appropriate clinical resources and your own professional judgement, not Barihan.

3. No patient-identifiable data

Barihan is designed to be used with anonymised or aggregated information only. You must not enter patient-identifiable information, including names, NHS or hospital numbers, dates of birth, addresses, full postcodes, admission dates, or rare-case narratives or free text that could identify an individual.

You are responsible for ensuring the information you enter or upload is anonymised and that you are permitted to use it for audit or QIP purposes. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle the information you do provide.

4. Generated outputs require review

Parts of Barihan use automated drafting technology to help generate criteria, summaries, recommendations, QIP plans and related outputs. These outputs are drafts for professional review. They can be incomplete, out of date, inaccurate, unsuitable for your local context, or contain incorrect citations.

Before you rely on, submit or share any output, you must verify it — against the original source — including any standard, criterion, target, citation, calculation, interpretation or recommendation. Barihan outputs are not authoritative statements of clinical guidance, law or local policy.

5. Local governance remains outside Barihan

Barihan does not provide, replace or imply any of the following: audit registration, QIP approval, local governance approval, Caldicott approval, information governance approval, ethics review, research classification, supervisor or educational sign-off, ARCP or appraisal approval, or endorsement by any NHS body, Trust or other organisation.

A document produced or exported from Barihan is working documentation, not an approval. You remain responsible for following the registration, approval and governance processes of your employer, regulator and training programme.

6. Source currency

Clinical standards, national guidance and local policies change over time. Barihan may help you identify, structure or summarise sources, but you are responsible for confirming that any source used is current, complete, applicable to your setting, and approved for use locally before you rely on it.

7. Reporting a safety concern

If you believe Barihan has produced an unsafe, materially inaccurate or misleading output, please tell us at [ contact email — e.g. privacy@barihan.co.uk — to be confirmed ]. Where you can, include the project topic, the type of source, the type of output, and a short description of the concern. Do not include any patient-identifiable information in your report.
