Working draft. This document is being finalised ahead of public launch. Some details shown in brackets are still to be confirmed, and it does not yet constitute the final, binding policy.

This policy explains how Barihan uses cookies and similar technologies. In short: we use only what is strictly necessary to run the service. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. “Similar technologies” include things like local storage, which a site can use to remember information in your browser. They can be “essential” (needed to provide the service you asked for) or “non-essential” (used for other purposes such as analytics or advertising).

2. The cookies and storage we use

We use the following, all of which are strictly necessary to provide the service:

PaymentWhen you subscribe, payment is handled on Stripe’s secure checkout. Stripe sets its own essential cookies on its pages to process the payment and prevent fraud.StripeEssential cookie (third party)

Cookie names set by our providers may vary and can change as they update their services. The purposes above describe what they are for.

3. What we do not use

We do not currently use any analytics, performance, advertising, social media or other non-essential cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. The privacy notice you see when you first visit reflects this: optional cookies are off.

If we introduce any non-essential cookies in the future, we will ask for your consent first through that notice, and you will be able to accept or reject them. We will update this policy before doing so.

4. Legal basis

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested do not require consent. The cookies and storage described above fall within that “strictly necessary” exemption. Any non-essential cookies would require your consent, which we would obtain before setting them.

5. How to manage cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to block them. Please note that if you block or delete our essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in or use core parts of the service.

Most browsers explain how to manage cookies in their help pages. You can also learn more about cookies and your choices at the ICO’s website: https://ico.org.uk.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if our use of cookies changes. We will change the “last updated” date above when we do.

7. Contact us

If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at [ contact email — e.g. privacy@barihan.co.uk — to be confirmed ]. For more on how we handle personal information generally, see our Privacy Policy.
